Here to tell you that you don’t need notoriety or game dev fame to be successful in the industry. You don’t need to be on lists. You don’t need to speak at cons. You can also do consistently good work and have colleagues who want to refer you and work with you in the future.
Almost every job I’ve gotten has been because people I worked with in the past are excited to work with me again, and either actively poach me, or put in a good word. Not tooting my horn, just stating some facts.
Doing things like major networking, speaking at conferences, blogging, being loud outside of work...that stuff takes time and investment that not everyone has and THAT IS OKAY.
It is always an option to keep your head down, treat your coworkers with respect and be a force for good, and do excellent work that people remember. The industry is TINY and that goes a long way.
So relax. You’re doing just fine. Not all of us need to be @therealcliffyb 🤣
