Thought on growth of conspiracy theories among Christians:

This is not a good thing, but many misread the cause by focusing blame on those who accept and share such theories.

Rather, it may reflect institutional rot ordinary Christians perceive but struggle to adapt to. 1/7
Schools and universities no longer teach objective truth. Establishment media push ideological narratives and absurd denials of basic truths. Tech platforms openly censor posts whose truth is uncontested.

Is it any wonder people feel unmoored from the truth on many topics? 2/7
Yet as Christians see such lies proliferate, many of their own leaders in media and politics say little.

When these people shrink from challenging obvious evils and lies, is it any wonder ordinary Christians lose faith in the judgment—even loyalty—of such purported leaders? 3/7
Such distrust is not limited to individual Christian influencers. Pastors whose denominations support them, Christian schools and universities who chase the same ideas, and professionals as a class who often seem to ignore such incongruence all lose credibility. 4/7
People know conspiracies happen. Not all theories are wrong. Yet people are also prone to narrative fallacies, and can too readily accept particular conspiracy theories.

Respected leaders could reinforce better explanations, but ours leave Christians uncertain where to turn. 5/7
Thus, paradoxically, Christian influencers who most vehemently denounce conspiracy theories—such as @DavidAFrench, @drmoore, and @BenSasse—may, by their relative inaction on bigger lies, actually contribute most to the distrust that opens Christians to such theories. 6/7
The sooner new Christian leaders who display both courage and prudence step up, the sooner Christians can regain trust in our institutions and effectively confront an increasingly confused and hostile world. 7/7
