I knew about fancy domestic pigeons, but I didn't realize there were so many stunningly beautiful wild pigeons, too.

This is the Victoria crowned pigeon. When it's born, it looks like a muppet that fell into a blueberry pie, but it eventually matures into an imperial majesty
The Victoria crowned pigeon also produces a hypnotic electro drumbeat while bobbing its head, and clearly needs to start a band with Weddell seals, which chirp and wail like laser guns

(make sure to watch to the end for the excellent kid commentary)
The spinifex pigeon has evolved sandy plumage for camouflage in dry grassy habitat and an extra long head antenna for a stronger WiFi connection
The Nicobar pigeon is what happens when a vulture, a rainbow, and an emo LiveJournal are permanently fused during a teleportation accident
Some researchers have proposed that the Nicobar pigeon, the only living member of the genus Caloenas, is the closest living relative of the dodo, though it seems the precise lineages are still debated

The pink-necked green pigeon, which surely deserves a more poetic name, looks like it flew straight out of a pastel artist's daydream. The pastel pigeon?
