Can’t wait to learn how speaking while Arab was inherently propaganda in 1983.
One thing I learned is that to really find out about Arab-American activism in the 1980s, the best records are with pro-Israel organizations. They documented the community's advocacy efforts better than the community did itself. We need to reclaim their archives of us.
Back when the Saudi ambassador’s wife was a badass.

Anyways, the ADL took objection with this group trying to get the US to stop selling weapons to Israel for use against “the Lebanese people.”
Apparently, giving aid to refugees = propaganda. And they put scare quotes around plight.
I just learned a lot about @meriponline from its entry. The ADL did say it was “heavily researched, well-written” despite it also being “propaganda.” Subscribe today!
I had no idea Israel jailed the documentarian Joan Mandell for IMPERSONATING A JOURNALIST and STEALING A SPENT BULLET! The ADL thought this was damning somehow. I met her several times and she never once told me any of this.
In case you're wondering why the ADL had such an extensive record of Arab-American and progressive activism at that time it's because they had full-time investigators and infiltrators working to gather information. It all came out in 1993. https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1993-04-13-mn-22383-story.html
