Gov. Polis introduces Dr. Fauci to offer advice for Colorado. Fauci: "Colorado is not alone in seeing a spike in cases. If you look across the United States, we are in a public health crisis right now."
Fauci: "What we are likely going to see is a surge upon a surge...We have about a month or more where it is in our hands to try to mitigate it."
Fauci says as we get into April, there will be vaccines for the general population. "Once we get there, we can crush this outbreak. We can do it, we just need to hang together a bit longer."
Polis doing some Q&A with Dr. Fauci now. Asks him about effectiveness of wearing a mask. Fauci: "No intervention is 100%. It is very clear that wearing masks has a positive impact. Wear masks indoors, and outdoors when you can't avoid people."
Fauci is asked by @SteveStaeger about Mayor Hancock's recent travel. Fauci won't comment specifically about the mayor but says, "mixed messages, particularly by people in authority...is not only not helpful, it can be detrimental."
Fauci is asked for more details about availability of vaccine. "By the time you get to May, June, July, August - you very likely could have the overwhelming majority of the population vaccinated. You could safely get people back to school and work in the fall."
Fauci asked by @jessicaseaman about challenges vaccinating even health care workers. Fauci says we have to get health care workers to be confident the vaccine is safe. Fauci now firmly making a case that the vaccine is "safe and effective." Still streaming live on #CBSNDenver.
