#Immigration, #healthcare, and the #economy are the top issues that Latinos in #Georgia are looking at for this next election. A thread about what we’ve learned out about Latinos in Georgia in the first 12 days of door knocking in the state with @GAconGANAS
#GeorgiaConGanas
There are over 1 million Latinos GA, with 300,000 being voters, or 5% of the vote. Many Latinxs live in mixed-status families, where the parents might be undocumented and the children are U.S. citizens. We’ve talked to 8,000 Latinxs on the doors and on the phones ALL OVER Georgia
MORE THAN HALF of the people we talked to prefer to be spoken to in ESPAÑOL. Okay so it's 53% but still, most of the information is in English. And only 1 out of 159 counties in the state is required to present voting information in Spanish, per the Voting Rights Act.
We’ve talked a majority of voters of #Mexican descent (68%), followed by #PuertoRican (30%) and few #Cuban voters (1.3). Of these, MX voters overwhelmingly say immigration is their main concern but PR voters have both healthcare and Immigration at the top. #GeorgiaConGanas
Young folks are most concerned with immigration while all other ages seem to be tied between #healthcare and #immigration. With a large percentage of Latino voters being under 30, this is an important thing to catch.
Latinos in rural and urban areas are more concerned with immigration while those in the suburbs with healthcare. Makes sense, as lower income Latinos & their families likely living in urban & rural areas (where there is lots of agricultural & factory work) & not in the suburbs.
A majority of Latinos are Democrat (57%) or leaning Democrat (19%). Then there are about 17% who are still undecided and up for grabs. This is consistent with what we know about the state, where 69% of Latinos voted for Biden and helped turn Georgia against Trump #FueraTrump
But not everyone has a voting plan. Of the people we talked to, 22% will vote on election day, 13% by mail, and a majority 34% with saying they will vote early. But almost ONE THIRD (29%) do NOT have a voting plan yet.
We plan to knock on ON EVERY DOOR in the state of Georgia FOR THE FIRST TIME. Learn how to support our work to win the US Senate and open up opportunities for our whole community in Georgia and the entire country at http://www.fueratrump.com/georgia
S/o to our partners, @GAconGANAS, who are co-leading this campaign. Also, @songpowerc4 who helped us knock on 280k Black + Latinx doors for #FueraTrump & doing powerful work this election. & @CasainAction @unitehere23 @americavotes in making sure we reach our gente in #Georgia.
