That said, for a public figure, there is, of course, some transition period (pun not intended... or maybe it was!) when you have make some sort of connection between their names just so people know who you are talking about.

Do so very carefully and ONLY if you really need to
In Elliott's case, I think "Elliott Page, who formerly worked under the name _____" just once in articles is fine for stories about his announcement. Stories that come after that should make no mention of his former name.
As a broader reminder, if you make a mistake with someone's pronouns, just correct yourself and move on. Don't make a big deal about it.

Trans people know when it's an honest mistake and when it isn't. Most of us get the you can't instantly rewire your brain.
