#inspiration

My uncle always considered me as a daughter, but being profoundly deaf and living at the other end of the country, feels further away than ever.

Today, he sent me this parable that resonated strongly. I’m sharing his exact words:

Hiya Niki

An old story which has inspired me for more than 30 years.

Very proud of you.

Fishermen of souls

Sitting by a river, two fishermen held their sticks, awaiting for fish.

2/n
All of a sudden, cries of children snap into the silence. Startled, they look forward. Nothing. They look back. Nothing. The screams continue, and they come from where they least expected.

The midstrem brought two children, nearly drowned, crying for help.

3/n
The fisherman toss their rods aside and jump in.

With much effort, the children are saved, when they hear more screaming and realize four more came down the stream, desperate. Still breathless, they jump in again - yet two of the babes can't be saved.

4/n
Still astounded, the two couldn't believe it when they heard an even larger crying. This time, there were eight little ones, splashing about in the water.

One of the fishermen turns his back on the river and starts to walk away.

5/n
His friend intervenes: "Are you mad? Are you not going to help me?" Serenely, his friend replies: do the best you can. I'm going to find out who is throwing these babes in the rapids.

Modified old Brazilian Indian Quote.

Lots of Love.

To me, this is about both doing something (jumping in the water) then understanding the root cause (finding out who put the babies in the water in the first place).

But it also represents the dilemma of choice. Options are not always the same.

7/n
Ultimately it raises questions about where you focus... how you invest your effort... how you see the choices you have...

How you use your power and voice and assets to make real change.

I hope he sees me trying to do that, everyday, through his world perspective đź’•
