Animation fandom needs to cultivate and elevate better community leaders. It's frankly unacceptable that bitter, sexually-aggressive, vindictive little shits keep ending up in places of localized power. We all need to do more to dismantle toxic communities and create better ones.
As Twitter dies, the future of animation fandom will probably be on Discord. That means we're moving to a norm of semi-isolated servers instead of public discourse, and that poses big dangers especially for marginalized people who often bear the brunt of toxicity and abuse.
From a community health perspective, the most important thing you can be doing is finding and supporting the good community leaders who will be overseeing us through the future of our fandom. Talk to people, share experiences, organize, keep safe.
