Politics is the new religion.

People are ever willing to compromise on their core religious principles as long as others agree with their politics.

Political identities have defeated religious identities worldwide. Is modernity to blame or Democracy? I don't know.

Republicans in the US are promoting their own Drag Queens to counter the Drag Queens on the Left. Hindutva in India is willing to tolerate beef-eaters and making peace with 'Christian Hindu'.
It's a worldwide phenomenon.

Monotheism was considered a counter-religion by people of the Many Gods when monotheism initially became a thing. With time, political ideologies have acquired all the attributes of a counter-religion.

It is also why religious festivals have all been practically banned during the Coronavirus pandemic citing restrictions that are based on reasons which do not seem to affect any political rallies at all.

You can make your wedding a political rally, invite some local politicians and ask them to make speeches and if they are willing to do it, then you can invite a thousand people to your wedding and nothing will happen. Otherwise, 50 or a 100 is the limit.
