We need to back up a moment though. We are living a national disaster right now. The number one tool that dictates positive outcomes is resource management. Vaccines are a new resource. A resource we need to properly manage.
Part of that management is open and honest communication about how much we have, how effective it is and who it helps best.
All of this info is basically contained in the trials data.
All of this info is basically contained in the trials data.
Example: we have vaccine A & vaccine B. Vaccine A has 1/2 the available doses as Vaccine B but works better in 30-50yr olds. Vaccine B is effective in children and the elderly.
We say health care workers are the most important and then the elderly and then everyone else.
We say health care workers are the most important and then the elderly and then everyone else.
We want to cover as many of the healthcare workers we can so, we use up vaccine B on them first.
What we should have done is used vaccine A on them. It’s more effective on their age group. By using vaccine B on their pts where it’s more effective, we have reduced the health care workers load throughout the system and added extra protections to them through lower exposures.
This is why we need the curtain pulled back and the data released.
With that info, we can all make a better informed choices on the vaccines.
Keep this in mind when you see recommendations on who gets the vaccines. You are deserved an answer as to why those choices were made. #Imask4U
