✒️ 10+ Tips & The Writing Framework that Earns 1.24M+ Subscribers

Riffs on best practices from @aliabdaal

Thread time 🧵
1/ Want to maximize the value of what you create?

Plan every vid with specific intention.

🥾 Discoverable Content

🏕 Community Content

🛒 Sales Content
Create something hyper useful (+ plug your content)
2/ NOTE! There's no such category as plain old “useful content." 🙅‍♀️

Useful is table stakes!

If you make it useful - or entertaining, or inspiring - you might as well make it hyper-discoverable, hyper-relevant to your audience, or level it up into something sellable
3/ ☞ ✅ Create Yes Chains

If they don't say "yes" to your vid's 1st 10 seconds, they won't for the next 5 minutes either.

In his book Influence, @RobertCialdini explains: due to our need for consistency, once you get initial agreement, every following "yes" becomes easier.
4/ Yes Chains for Video: HIVES Framework

🪝 The Hook
The first 10 seconds of your video - a promise.
🏡 Your Intro
Who you are and what value you're offering.
🏅 The Value
The meat - why, what, and how to solve their problem.

What they should do next
5/ 🪝 The Hook

Your headline + thumbnail are the first "yes" that you need to achieve.

After that, you need to make a compelling promise within the first 10 seconds of your video... and NOTHING ELSE.

Some hook examples...

6/ 🏡 Your Intro

This is your quick pitch for who you are and who would be interested in the kinds of things you do.

This helps orient new viewers, pitch them on content you're creating, and (ideally) establish credibility.

7/ 🏅 The Value

Here are some ways to provide amazing value:

- Script (write bad 1st drafts, then edit to perfection)
- High quality voice-over + b-roll content
- Cut back on repetition during editing
- Add visual and verbal flair, easter eggs
- Consistent branding and style
8/ ⚾️ End Screen Sales Pitch

The biggest mistake at the end of the video is signaling you're done. ("Thanks for watching this video" "And that wraps up that topic!" "Thanks guys, if you're new here")

INSTEAD, seamlessly transition to recommending more of your content to watch.

9/ Bonus Tip # 1: Inventing IP

If you "brand" a concept compellingly, people will pick up on it and start to amplify your message. "Sticky" concepts spread better!

e.g.

- @fortelabs Progressive Summarization
- @JamesClear Atomic Habits
- @david_perell Personal Monopolies
10/ Bonus Tip # 2

Should you ask for subscribers?

In 2010, it was important. Today, it's still considered best practice, but it's not required and no one's really sure how consequential it is.

Early on, it probably makes sense, but try to incorporate the ask in a playful way.
