Typical scam, delivered with a different approach.
Scammer pretends to represent "Anydesk", when in fact they're trying to get it loaded to take over a PC.
Usually these scams ask for a small fee, then rob you once they get your card details.
This one is demanding £7k menacingly. https://twitter.com/uk_rants/status/1333780282839732230
1st examination of laptop & it's full of malware.
Not the usual crowded malware. Seems to have been trying to load a keylogger, but just can't get her AV turned off enough to get in.
They've scraped enough info from laptop to use on phone call.
Easy remedied, tears can stop. 🤷‍♂️
They've scraped some info from her laptop, just enough to convince them the family has money.
Then assumed she's still away from home & thought she'd daftly part with some.
I'll get her a new SIM card & it'll all end tomorrow.
Nothing lost, just some upset/worry for a wee lassie.
They could've had her, had they asked for the obligatory £30 fee, and gained access that way.
She might've fallen for that.
They'd have got bank card & she might not have noticed until too late.
Greed was their undoing.
I might try to snare them on phone tomorrow for the craic.
