I cycled from Harold’s Cross to Ballymun and back today, the longest I’ve cycled in awhile and it was absolutely infuriating. Thankfully there was only 2 incidents where I felt genuinely unsafe but the rest of the trip was just car after car parked illegally.
This area in Ballymun had 3 trucks and vans parked one after the other - not a care in the world.
This van was parked directly beside a perfectly good and large parking space, but look he has his hazard lights on so it’s fine 🤬
This lovely fella was parked blocking the road and the cycle lane AND on a corner! Such fun 😒
I would love to know if @AdonisFlowers are happy with their delivery system? The truck was full of flowers so I assume that it was your delivery. To make navigating this even more exciting there was a set of steps sticking out the traffic side of truck as well.
And finally we have these two delightful fellas, one of whom made an illegal turn at Leonard’s corner and then pulled in beside HX bridge completely blocking the lane. He didn’t seem remotely concerned when I asked him wtf he was doing 🤷🏼‍♀️
I don’t have much to say about the two incidents when I was genuinely scared but please if you’re a driver don’t ever undertake other cars or close pass cyclists and please consider observing stop signs.
Days like today won’t ever make me stop cycling but they make me a much angrier person than I’d like to be.
For the sake of clarity - these are not all the illegally parked cars I saw, just the ones I was comfortable photographing. I counted 21 cars parked in cycle lanes from Ballymun to HX, I didn’t count ones parked on the path not blocking me directly. I didn’t count on the way out.
