1 of I don’t know of how many.
It’s been suggested to me I shouldn’t be so vocal about having #endometriosis as it could effect me working as an actor.
I am hoping my industry will read, support and ask the same questions I am asking in my following words. 🙏
So I shouldn’t discuss or be visible & vocal about having endometriosis because?
Is because it’s a disease that effects those of us born with ovaries&a womb? Is it that periods are still taboo, still seen as something that shouldn’t be discussed, still seen as something dirty?
52% of the world’s population have a period. It should not be an uncomfortable discussion.
So periods should be normalised.
However, being in crippling pain, unable to move, vomiting with the pain, fainting with the pain, pain over your whole body,
migraines, INFERTILITY & MISCARRIAGES should NOT be normalised.
Yet 1 in 10 born with ovaries & a womb suffer from Endometriosis. Various stages of the disease, various levels of pain. An average of 8 years to get a diagnosis. NO CURE.
Management of pain option. Consistently take The Pill. A concoction of painkillers & anti-inflammatory medication, dietary changes (which doesn’t work for all) or a HYSTERECTOMY which is not a cure although is sold that it is.
I’ve been loving with this since I was 12.
I got through school, drama training, working in theatre, tv, film, offices, bars, restaurants, teaching drama to young people, adults and I am still going.
So why shouldn’t I talk about it? I think this would make me more employable.
It shows my determination, stamina, passion, spirit & commitment. No?
Below is me today. In agony, teaching over Zoom, half way through a 8 hour shift.
Hot water bottle, painkillers and a bold lip.
52 % who have/had periods. We are INCREDIBLE and absolutely EMPLOYABLE!
