Final Presentations in #UMBeyondDispensing: a thread. These @olemisspharmacy students are so creative in the businesses and services that they developed to advance community pharmacy!! I’ll be sharing the 8 group’s business titles with a short description. 1/
Our first group to present was OnDemandRx. A mobile pharmacy for the Mississippi Delta. This team even contacted an existing mobile pharmacy and got their spec sheet for outfitting a vehicle. #UMBeyondDispensing 2/
Next up we had QuickTest Jackson, a turnkey consulting service for community pharmacies looking to offer rapid HIV testing. They’d provide supplies and education for the pharmacists. Unfortunately Jxn MS has a very high HIV rate. #UMBeyondDispensing 3/
Our 3rd group is PrecisionRx, a similar turnkey solution for community pharmacists looking to offer Pharmacogenomics testing. The group would offer consulting for pharmacists on implementing PGx in their existing workflow #UMBeyondDispensing 4/
Group 4 chose to offer a new service in a well-known existing pharmacy. 23% of the population in their target area smokes. The group would conduct an 8-week educational program for patients & NRT recs + CPA for Rx only. Their slogan: “It is never too late” #UMBeyondDispensing 5/
The next group in #UMBeyondDispensing is Needle Friends, a potential syringe exchange program that would partner with pharmacies to provide supplies and education about HIV. They would also have a CPA to provide PrEP/PEP from their home office. 6/
Conquering Hypertension would be a new service in an existing rural community pharmacy. They would offer classes 3x/wk on HTN and lifestyle mods including free BP screenings for those who take the classes. MS has a v high prevalence of HTN throughout. #UMBeyondDispensing 7/
Mobile Meds would be a mobile solution affiliated with an existing pharmacy. They separate themselves from the competition by offering med sync, immz, and other services on-the-go right where the patients are. #UMBeyondDispensing 8/
Our last group is genoME. They would offer PGx testing in a new pharmacy in the Jackson area. This group even contacted a lab service and spoke with an executive there about costs and how pharmacies could get started!! #UMBeyondDispensing 9/
I have been dreaming and designing this class for about 3 years and the first offering exceeded all of my expectations. We had amazing guest speakers and the students’ projects were incredible! #UMBeyondDispensing 10/
Special thanks to my co-course director, Olivia Strain, for her help and her network of pharmacists!! And thanks to all of you for following along all semester! #UMBeyondDispensing 11/
Student Pharmacists need to be exposed to exciting opportunity in Community Pharmacy. It’s not “just retail”. SOP/COPs, curriculum, & faculty can do more to affirm students who choose community pharmacy career paths. The future is bright! #UMBeyondDispensing 12/12 @actforpharmacy
