How you eat also plays a huge part in what you eat. This is so important for families with children.They learn a lot from us about how eating should happen. Do we sit down together? Do we have good conversation while we eat? Or Do we eat on the run? or in front of the television?
When we eat with our children, they are influenced by our choices. Children are more likely to eat/explore foods when they see you eating those sand foods. They also learn dope communication skills. Like how to listen to other people & to share their ideas.
In school we did a bunch of studies on how a child’s environment/social setting and meal-time involvement affect their choices. Most children are NOT picky eaters. It’s just they’re not involved in the process of their dietary routine.
Truly “picky eaters” have a hypersensitivity to certain textures and tastes. Which is not always the case. Most kids aren’t given much of a say during mealtime and that’s truly ruining their relationship with food.
Could you imagine being home, and someone forcefully placed a plate of food in front of you, you had no idea how it was prepared or what it is and they told you how and how much to eat? You’d be like
If you can’t take them to the grocery store/market with you, show them a list of produce and have them pick out their faves. Let them help you unpack and store groceries. Allow them to prep meals & set the table with you. Depending on age, assist them in fixing their own plates.
