As a persuasion expert, I keep being asked how to get people to take the COVID vaccine. It’s simple.

However it’s not persuasion but incentives.

Your vaccine/antibody ID lets you to go to school, restaurants, bars, church, fly or take public transportation, etc.
The persuasion that needs to happen is lobbying policy makers and getting public support for COVID ID and incentive policies.

You don’t need to persuade everyone, only enough people.
Policy is how we keep the population safe when individual choices put others at risk, or put others at risk of killing the individuals taking those liberties.

Seatbelts, drunk driving, motorcycle helmets, etc.
COVID ID policies don’t need to be adopted at the national or any specific level. Once we have a COVID ID, individual towns, businesses, schools, etc can use it.
It will soon be clear that the policy is working, that it allows life to get back to normal, and other businesses, states, etc will adopt it. Blue states can lead the way.
Organizations adopting the policy can operate at full capacity, making them more profitable.
And in the case of schools, bars, etc, also more fun.
If you’re already working on a COVID ID policy, I’d be glad to help you out.
To people shouting about Nazis: this isn’t a radical idea, schools and summer camps have required vaccines for decades. And schools could keep the virtual option (though for teachers, hybrid sucks)
There are more complicated ways of doing this, like stores and restaurants remain at limited capacity but you can go anytime if you have COVID ID.
Since you’re saving healthcare costs, the government and employers should be willing to offer incentives. Paid days off. Free tickets to the events you can attend now. Cash.
In general, incentives are less effective than most people think. Because they don’t build habits, and the behavior goes away if when you take away the incentive. But one time behaviors like getting a vaccine are precisely the situations in which incentives do work.
Incentives are often impractical because they are costly, but getting the population vaccinated helps the economy, so this is also a situation in which incentives make sense.
