Right now if you don't know there is a war going on in Ethiopia between the Central Govt & its National Armed Forces and the forces of Regional Govt of Tigray Specifically Tigray People's Liberation Front. Amhara Region & Afar Region forces are also aiding the Central Govt.

Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) and the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) won & captured Addis Ababa in 1991. They formed what we now as Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia . This is how they are domestically structured -
In 2016 protest broke out and people were demanding end of HR violation & release of political prisoners. Heavy crackdown and lot's of death occurred. In 2018 Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn stepped down. Abiy Ahmed Ali later on became the PM.
He is the first Oromo chairman of the ruling Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front from the Oromo Democratic Party (ODP), which is one of the four coalition parties of the EPRDF. Thus after a long time a guy from Majority ethnic community Oromiya became PM.
Abiy Ahmed Ali in 2019 ended the 20 yr war between Eritrea and Ethiopia for which he also won Nobel Peace Prize. Note that Tigray people have intense hatred for Eritrea they didn't liked that.

The biggest loser in these last couple of years were Tigray people inspite being one of the smallest ethnic community(6%) they had the most power and were sitting in many influential positions which they started loosing. This increased the divide.

In September 2020 national elections were delayed because of Covid 19 but TPLF refused to listen in and Tigray authorities conducted elections in Tigray Region. It was considered illegal elections. On 4th Nov. TPLF attacked ENDF base,this was final nail in coffin. The war began
See unlike other insurgent groups they ruled the nation so they have hundreds of thousands of troops and heavy weaponry like a proper country. This makes the job of ENDF difficult& fight more equal.
Eritrea is obviously aiding Ethiopia only as they also hate TPLF.

The role of Sudan becomes important. How they will choose and whom they will help can become a important deciding factor.

If they enter then even Turkey may enter to aid Ethiopia because they have issues with Egypt. They maybe Saudi, UAE & Iran too.
This has the potential to get internationalized.
But so far Ethiopia has kept it as a internal issue & has avoided external pressure.
