My birthday message thread. On my birthday, I always like to share, in case anyone needs the boost: my first story placed on the Bridport Prize Flash Fiction shortlist when I was 46. My 1st publication was w/Spelk Fiction at 47. My 1st book cover art was published when I was 48.
Honestly, many days, especially lately, I wonder why I bother to try anything, but mostly I feel like my writing and my art give *my* life some meaning. My birthday message is to keep going or to get started, no matter your age. 2/5
Be wary of critics. Having an opinion doesn't require any special talent/courage. But putting yourself out there, the vulnerable part of yourself out there for all the world to see DOES take talent & courage. I applaud anyone w/the balls to do it. Go for it. Improve as you go. 3/
We have one, fleeting life. Follow your bliss. For yourself before anyone else. Consider, though, that someone out there needs your gifts and needs to see that you have the guts to follow your dreams for your own sake. 4/5
Do it. Before you're dead. Leave a creation of yours behind to cherish, for the people who are grateful you exist. There must be at least one person who will be glad you did and it'll be gold to them. /end
