Why is the cost of living so high? The importation of millions of immigrants, illegally and otherwise, over the last few decades and their strain on infrastructure. Why haven't salaries gone up? Immigrant labor to reduce the cost of labor.
Have you noticed how cities have gone, over the last few decades, from accessible places for families to live, to playgrounds for the ultra rich? That's because the US has opened property up to international elites, allowing them to crowd out American citizens
The elite would rather every major US city be populated exclusively by Chinese billionaires and their serf immigrant underclass than Americans because that means more money for them. What happens if you question this? Wait, what are you - some kind of racist or xenophobe?
Internationalism is the key to neoliberalism/international capital. That's why the single most taboo topics in contemporary American culture are those that could result in popular backlash to immigration or nationalist attitudes (racism, sexism, fascism)
Shouldn't we reduce immigration and look out for our own workers? That's Racism. Wait, aren't most women happier as mothers and not childless wage slaves? That's sexism. Hold on, shouldn't we prioritize our own nation's and people's interests? That's fascism
Media, k-12 education, academia, all work to reinforce these values. Turn on netflix and a show's cast will look like the united nations. School teaches the importance of being a "global citizen." Govt+big tech punish dissenters. And you can guess how trump fit into all of this
Trump's *real* crime was that he spoke to the American people's interests in advocating for themselves. He violated the biggest taboo, immigration, which caused the entire establishment to go into overdrive painting him as a racist, sexist, fascist. See how this works?
