I feel so empty and devastated knowing that trans people are being thrown under the bus by UK society.

I spent a long time involved with or running support groups for trans people at uni. Trans people are just like anyone else. The only difference is that our gender identity doesn't match what we were assigned at birth.
Overwhelmingly, the trans people I know and supported at uni were helped massively by the chance to transition. It's like a huge burden being lifted off of your shoulders. And so many people would take the chance to do so earlier and not be robbed of a happy childhood too.
Yet the past 5 years have seen a tyrannical and mounting campaign of hate against trans people. We're belittled and told that we can't possibly want this - that we're too young to know, or too old to bother starting.
Disinformation has been the crux of this. You know it's fucked up in the UK when average US news outlets are reporting on stuff in the UK with a lense of "what is going on over there?!".
For instance, a key claim of the "gender critical" movement is that many regret transition. Yet a survey in the US (there has been no equivalent in the UK afaik) found that just 0.4% of trans respondents later detransitioned because it "wasn't for them." https://www.nbcnews.com/feature/nbc-out/media-s-detransition-narrative-fueling-misconceptions-trans-advocates-say-n1102686
0.4%!!! You're orders of magnitude more likely to regret day to day medical procedures like:
- Hip replacements
- Having your wisdom teeth removed
- Chemotherapy
yet trans people in the UK are *still* belittled and told that we can't possibly be sure about what we want.

It's an absolute shambles that this is even a discussion that's necessary to have in the UK. Pretty much no other western country has the same hostile environment to trans people.
The UK media and a small but vocal & powerfully connected group of "feminists" are solely to blame for making the lives of hundreds of thousands of trans people in the UK significantly worse. Their vendetta is irrational, dangerous, and totally contrary to all of the evidence.
P.S. if you're a troll and reply to my tweets, bear in mind that:
1. Replying to my tweet will make the Twitter algorithm elevate this thread more, helping me
2. WHATEVER you say, my dad said worse to me when he emotionally abused me for being trans.
Have a nice day
