It's Giving Tuesday and you are about to besieged with a request from every nonprofit you have ever looked sideways at and you may ask "Should I give to them?" And the answer is yes. Yes, you should.
There are two types of nonprofits right now: organizations that are absolutely overwhelmed and need your help to keep feeding, sheltering, and supporting people (see: food pantries) and organizations that are starved for revenue and about to close. (See: theaters.)
So my recommendation is that if you are able to give, if there's a nonprofit you like or has helped you in the past, give them all the dollars you can spare. If there isn't and you aren't sure what to do, your local food pantry or shelter will absolutely need the funds.
IF YOU CANNOT GIVE THIS YEAR, I see you. I think of community support like a cycle: sometimes we need the help, sometimes we offer the help. If you need the help right now, let us help. It's what community does. You can help when your giving turn swings around again. It will.
