why steve’s rogers ending in avengers: endgame was the result of bad writing and internalized misogyny, a thread.

— the term trophy wife is used to reduce women as a status symbol. it’s commonly used to imply that the woman in question has no merit besides her physical attractiveness, or being a good wife. as if marriage defines her better than her personal accomplishments.

— to be perfectly honest, steve’s ending in endgame sound very similar to ads that objectify women as trophies, in which the white man always earn his due, just like this article explains it : (all links will be listed at the end of the thread)

— why is this problematic ?

peggy is not exactly a damsel in distress. she was not purely rescued by steve (and tbh she saved his ass many times.) but this is wrong because the main story is about winning : the man thinks of the woman as a rightful due.

and as much as i love steve and known he would never take peggy for granted, this is what the writers did to them.

— “but they are in love” : stevepeggy is a nice ship, of course. you might’ve liked their ending, but both of them had moved on from each other. and steve being obsessed with the idea of returning back to peggy is so out of character, especially since his entire development and +

the whole point of his movies were based on him moving on and adjusting to a new world, within his new family. they share an amazing relationship, but it’s not worth losing peggy’s character development either.

here are a few examples below.

in this scene, peggy pours steve’s blood from the brooklyn bridge. this is her final goodbye.

steve tells tony his new home is here, among the avengers, and that he’s not the same man he was back then.

we learn that peggy is married in this scene, and that she’s lived her life. now she advices steve to do the same.

steve leads a therapy group.

— let’s quickly talk about the kiss between steve and sharon which was completely unnecessary and reduced another woman to a love interest. steve is AWARE sharon is peggy’s niece and yet he kisses her ? bad writing strikes against. and don’t tell me he was sad because she +

reminded him of peggy bc that’s BULLSHIT. i know they are in a relationship in the comics, but, in the mcu, it’s gross. ESPECIALLY since he comes back to marry peggy in endgame, which makes sharon his own niece. don’t even quote this saying he’s his uncle by marriage, that +

doesn’t make it any better. another woman reduced to an object of desire.

— peggy’s whole character arc has been deleted, as if the agent carter’s series had never existed. her whole character development was just blatantly ignored, as the fact that she had moved on from steve. she and her work are almost never mentioned in the entire mcu when she was+

the co-founder and director of SHIELD, agent of the SSR, and yet she is only known as captain america’s love interest. she never became more than that.

— this article mentions another aspect of a scene that again, reduces peggy carter to an object of affection. in which steve sees peggy in his private office ; nothing is shown about her ; the only purpose of this scene revolves around the man and how he feels.
