Very glad the UAR has taken immediate action.
This is obviously hugely important for making sure those attacked know rugby does not reflect Matera’s views, it’s vital for helping the horrid image problem rugby has in Argentina, but there’s more to it than that. A thread- https://twitter.com/americasoval/status/1333586601558110210

I’m very willing to accept Pablo Matera has changed since he sent these tweets. However, Matera was 19 when we sent them, which is more than old enough to have developed enough empathy understand those he’s saying he wants to *run over in a car* are 99% just like him.
But here lies the problem: Most of us, as we get older, learn to be more compassionate, understanding, and less aggressive. But Pablo Matera has been consistently rewarded for being aggressive. It’s given him the chance to see the world. That will stifle any awakening empathy.
Not every rugby player is or has to be an angry person, but his manic aggression has always been Matera’s point of difference. This may well be the first time he’s been forced to reflect on how his aggression, towards everyone & everything not like him, is not always A Good Thing
This isn’t a pointless witch hunt. This is a case of actions requiring consequences in order to help someone understand the harm they have or could have caused, with the aim of us eventually making this a brighter and kinder world, one human being at a time.
