Yesterday in Parliament, I asked an urgent question about the Government's scheduled charter flight.

A recent @EHRC report found the Government’s #HostileEnvironment discriminatory & unlawful.
The policy breached the Equality Act 2010 by failing to account for the impact of policies like deportation flights on members of the Windrush Generation & their families. [2/8]

In their hurry to deport people, the Home Office has repeatedly failed on due diligence & due process.
We know thousands of people have been wrongfully deported over the years.
The speed with which they’re rushing this through rings alarm bells yet again. [3/8]

As I said today, no one is above the law and no one is beneath a proper legal process.
That means adequate legal representation and the right of appeal.

Even more worrying when we remember what's at stake here.
31 children could be separated from their fathers ahead of this Christmas if the flight goes ahead.

Also frustrated by the Government's unhelpful portrayals of these men.
Many of these men came to Britain as children.
Their offences & sentences vary.

The threshold for deportation is a 12-month sentence, which is a bad indication of criminality (as an earlier independent review found).
We also know that Black & Asian people consistently receive longer custodial sentences compared to white people for the same offences. [7/8]

Rather than bulldozing ahead with the same discriminatory practices that caused so much suffering to the Windrush Generation, the Home Office needs to urgently suspend them.
