Alright. Time to talk about Foucault and power briefly. I have work to do, but some of you need it. The originality in Foucault's notion of power lies in how it treats the idea of subject creation. Power is NOT ONLY just what says "no".
What Foucault is primarily interested in is how power can compel subjectivities to identify themselves, define themselves, and act accordingly. This is a fundamentally POSITIVE conception of power. This is why I am always urging people who rely in their scholarship on biopower...
to fundamentally separate it from the anatomopower. This distinction is crucial. And every time someone thinks that foucault's conception starts and ends with a body being thrown into a prison or asylum, they are wrong. They've missed the entire point of his scholarship.
The physical constraints in Foucault's work are important; however, equally important are the forces that run through the subject, perpetually producing it and reproducing it. Docility is double sided coin, you take one and leave the other - you lose the technology of power...
