// jjk manga spoilers

I'm going to make this a thread talking about Megumi, his potential, and theories about him because I've been thinking about this for a while now.
this might end up just being a bunch of incoherent thoughts by the way, I just need a place to dump out my thoughts lol
so I guess I'll start out with the theory that Megumi can possibly ressurect the dead. Megumi's shikigami have symbols on their heads - which are symbols of the 10 divine treasures that have the power to resurrect the dead (based from the japanese shinto religion I think)
so it's been theororized for a while now that Sukuna is interested in Megumi because of this power - possibly to resurrect his original body, or perhaps he has some other goal
my own personal theory is that Megumi needs to combine all his shikigami (the way he did in the Wells Unkown Abyss) in order to perform necromancy - because I'm guessing the treasures need to be unified and it's not enough to only tame Mahoraga
I think it's in the folklore that you need the 10 treasures to resurrect the dead (i.e. combining them all together perhaps? or using them all at once to perform a resurrection ritual)
but anyways now that that theory's out of the way I want to talk about Megumi's strength and potential - because I genuinely believe he has the ability to surpass Gojo and become the strongest(?) or at least one of the strongest sorcerers in the series
even though Megumi is getting beat up a lot and doesn't exactly win too many fights - he is still said to be a very talented prodigy and he is already a 2nd grade sorcerer despite being a first year
Megumi has a lot of potential with his technique and abilities - he hasn't even completed his domain chimera shadow garden yet, he hasn't tamed all 10 shikigami and hasn't used them all to their full potential (i.e. max elephant can create whole floods but Megumi doesn't have +
+ enough cursed energy to do that yet), there is so much potential with what he could do with Mahoraga once he is able to tame it, and he could possibly even combine different combinations of shikigami to create even more powerful techniques. There's so much that can be done
so while Megumi isn't exactly the strongest yet - I don't think it's because of his skills and abilities, Gojo even said he had high potential and skills (possibly higher than Yuji) and it's mainly the mental aspect/his personality holding him back
I have no idea how to organize this thread further - it's about to become even more of a mess lmao - but I'll keep going ahahaha
Gojo even said at one point that the head of the Gojo family and the head of the Zen'in family killed each other in battle as equals (?) so Megumi's problem definitely isn't with his inherent ability or power - it has to do with mindset
Megumi has the tendency to be self-sacrificial - he tries sacrifices himself prematurely in a lot of his battles
this is random but I just wanted to add that in his battle with Todo he actually broke one of Todo's fingers (in the manga) and he used the Wells Unknown Abyss - a weaker variation of two of his shikigami - so I don't think he lost that badly because he was a lot weaker +
+ he lost that battle because he didn't try. Which further proves my point when near the end he says "I'm not even trying, I'm going to get serious" (and no I don't think he was going to summon Mahoraga because he was a sore loser - he's not stupid lmao)
anyways going back to Megumi's personality/mindset and his sacrificial tendencies
I think the reason he's willing to readily die and sacrifice himself is because of a lack of self-worth - I don't think he values his life very much
Both his parents abandoned him, he was going to be sold, and then he forcibly became a jujutsu sorcerer - all his life he's been treated like some sort of doll without having any control over his life - all his decisions were made for him
I feel like Megumi choosing how to die - is his way of having control in his life, just like how he selectively chooses who to save. So saving Yuji was probably the biggest decision he has every made on his own accord
he has *ever made on his own accord (grammar error)
I feel like Shibuya will be the turning point in his character arc. He'll probably get some self-worth soon after knowing that Sukuna killed tons of people just to keep him safe, so he might realize that his life is valuable
Either that or it could go south - he realizes that Sukuna wants him for some evil purpose and is willing to sacrifice himself so Sukuna can't use him...........
there's also the theory that Megumi could go astray(?) as a parallel to gojo/getou (but I think if I wanted to talk about parallels between them and yuji/megumi I should save that for another thread lol)
but I can't see Megumi going astray at all - I can't really think of any situation where he would, since he has pretty strong morals. I guess unless something happened to Tsumiki (ex. they'll use her to get to him) but somehow I doubt that'll happen
ok there's a lot more I want to talk about: Megumi's personality and moral values etc. but my mind is getting jumbled up right now lol
