so many people ask me how veganism intersects with BLM:
- BLM is about institutional racism
- food deserts, environmental racism, etc are included in that
- pig farming directly pollutes black areas
- lack of vegan food in food deserts is a racism issue
- black health matters
BLM and veganism, although not 100% the same, intersect in so many ways. the vegan movement could collaborate with other justice movements but you would never know it because white veganism trumps intersectional veganism. racist vegans make veganism seem discriminatory.
an example of how the two can collaborate: i have been working with @veganoutreach to bring weekly produce & vegan items to food deserts for almost a year. others have been working with black organizations to do the same in LA. if more vegan organizations did this, it’d be major.
black people are the fastest demographic that is going vegan. it’s a shame that white veganism takes the forefront and many of the amazing work PoC vegans are doing gets drowned out because it’s more mainstream to focus on white veganism than intersectional veganism.
if you would like to follow more PoC vegans, adopt a vegan lifestyle (for any budget type), know more about environmental racism, the exploitation of slaughterhouse workers & subsidies, need tips, etc. here is a list of threads i have slaved on regarding these topics!! 🥳 https://twitter.com/tyrathetaurus/status/1320822660838739969
i also have a podcast called @kombuchahour where I talk about black and intersectional veganism if anyone is interested!! https://linktr.ee/kombuchahour
