I've been a huge fan of @theweeknd since The Trilogy (Twenty Eight 😭), and have listened to StarBoy more times than I care to remember. Following his @RecordingAcad snub, I was thoroughly bummed. It also reminded me of some of my faves who have never been awarded. A mini thread:
1. ABBA 🇸🇪
Nominations: 0

Certainly one of the most commercially successful acts in music history, the Swedish pop group has sold over 11 million albums worldwide, and have raked in over $2 billion in sales according to Forbes.
2. BJORK 🇮🇸
Nominations: 15

Arguably one of the most compelling and unique artists of our time, the Icelandic has sold over 5 mil. pure albums in the US alone, with very little success on the charts (think her peak was #84). She has done pretty well in the UK and France though.
3. BOB MARLEY 🇯🇲
Nominations: 1

A man who obvs needs no introduction, Marley has sold an estimated 75 million copies worldwide, and is for me, the face of Jamaican culture and reggae music. His only nomination was in 2002, over 20 years after his death 😢
4. DIANA ROSS 🇺🇲
Nominations: 12

The lead singer of the Supremes ... and The Boss 'Miss Ross', has sold over 100 million records worldwide, and has been inducted into the Hall of Fame multiple times. She was also awarded the Lifetime Achievement award in 2012.
5. THE DOORS 🇺🇲
Nominations: 1

With a short-lived career following the death of frontman and lead singer Jim Morrison in the early 70s, they were the first American hand to accumulate 8 consecutive Gold or Platinum Long Plays (LPs)
6. GUNS N' ROSES 🇺🇲
Nominations: 3

Dubbed 'The Most Dangerous Band in the World', their first album (and my most favorite) 'Appetite For Destruction' was the highest selling debut album ever when it was released (and I think it still is to date, not sure)
7. JANIS JOPLIN 🇺🇲
Nominations: 2

Having released only 4 albums before her untimely death in 1970, Janis has had a HUGE impact on the Rock N Roll genre with her electric stage presence and legendary soulful music. She has however been awarded the Lifetime Achievement award
8. JIMI HENDRIX 🇺🇲
Nominations: 1

In my eyes, Jimi is the most prolific and impactful guitarist OF ALL TIME! He got his only nomination shortly after his death in 1970, and gas since received multiple Hall of Fame honours and the Lifetime Achievement award in 1992
9. KATY PERRY 🇺🇲
Nominations: 13

Okay, judge me quick and finish, but I think Teenage Dream (2010) is one of the best pop albums of the 21st century. Spawning 5 number 1 hits from the record, this made Katy the first female to do so, and placed her in Michael Jackson territory.
10. NICKI MINAJ 🇹🇹
Nominations: 10

Onika had me with her verse on the 'Sweet Dreams' remix, so as a Ken-Barb, this is really personal for me. She is the undisputed Queen of Rap, and has had more Billboard Top 100 entries than any other woman across all genres.
11. QUEEN 🇬🇧
Nominations: 4

This was the hardest one to tweet, cause, you know, Mr. Fahrenheit and stuff. So ... Jah. 😔

#RIPFreddieMercury
12. TUPAC SHAKUR 🇺🇲
Nominations: 6

Okay, so I'm just gonna say we live in a world where Pac doesn't have a Grammy award (not even in those "Urban" that are low-key high-key reserved only for black people) 😢
