Why we should be bothered about these ungrateful people who don’t even pay taxes and gets subsidies, loan waivers and tax exemptions by our tax money? How does its going to affect us?

First of all, throw away this misconception that only direct taxes are taxes, each (1/n) https://twitter.com/Maneesh312/status/1312175711046656002
and every individual who is consuming anything is paying taxes.

Tax exemptions to agriculture- Please go and read Section 10 (1) along with section 2(1A) which deals with the very definition of “agriculture land” and “agriculture income”.

Clear your head for fact that (2/n)
Agriculture Income is not wholly exempt from taxes until and unless its the only income of assessee.

Let say, if Agriculture Income of an individual is Rs. 5 lacs and other income from other sources is Rs 10 lacs. Then on saying that agriculture is wholly exempted, his (3/n)
Liability should be Rs. 125000/-. But thats not true, his tax liability is 275000 (tax liability on total income) - 75000 (tax liability on basic exemption + agriculture income) = Rs. 200000/-.

Every “well to do” farmer is also paying income tax on his agriculture income (4/n)
Minimum Support Price (MSP) for most of crops are even less than Comprehensive Cost of Production (C2) while recommendations of Swaminathan Commision was to set MSP at 1.5 times of C2. Farmers aren’t even getting returns on the capital invested by them in farming. (5/n)
But then the question arises why farmers are so much after getting MSP and how does it affect the consumers at large?

MSP acts as an instrument in determining the floor price of any crop. It reduces the volatility of prices in crops and stabilises it, thus giving (6/n)
A certainty and assurance of return to farmers on their produce. For any business Volatility and uncertainty are biggest deterrents. Truly speaking Indian farmer is not greedy rather just want to get the bare minimum cost of its investment and efforts on his farm. (7/n)
This MSP acting as floor price of crops actually keeps a check on food inflation. Please go and check what has been the increase in the prices of grains in last 10 years, 20 or 30 years, they had been kept on check by MSP. MSP act as a safety valve for the consumers (8/n)
Now again the question arises when a large population of farmers are deprived of MSP and they are made to sell produce below MSP at APMCs why they are still after it. The biggest chunk of population of farmers Are those for whom even their own produce is insufficient (9/n)
For their own consumption and at the end of the day they have to buy grains from the market. And that is also the reason why it’s not even feasible for them to switch to cash crops. Smaller the size of the farm lesser is the percentage of the agriculture income (10/n)
In the total household income of the farmer’s family. The insufficiency of food is met by purchasing the grains from the market so highly inflated Food prices would make lives of the poorest of the farmers unsustainable and they will be literally starving in such a case (11/n)
No, farmers are not fools, they have a better understanding of economics than you and me. They know what’s best suited for them and they are the best judge of it. The only difference is unlike is they don’t want double income rather they want sustainable income. (12/n)
Another argument Thrown is that in with dilution of essential commodities act now farmers can store as much as they want and determine the food prices but the question is when was the restrictions on Farmers from storing their produce to any extent? The restriction was (13/n)
always on traders and other private players. MSP is given only on 23 crops most of which are staple grains or pulses consumed by Indian households. One can reduce the consumption of vegetable, milk and etc in but to have a full belly it’s quintessential that there (14/n)
Self-sufficiency of grains for each and every individual in country. There is nothing more by pivotal for the national interest then the self-sufficiency of grains, Remember the situations our country faced Due to insufficiency of food, During 1965 war with Pakistan (15/n)
Which led to the slogan Jai jawan Jai Kisan.

Farmers of India are not educated fools like you and me they love this country and care for this country more than anyone of us they are not only fighting for themselves but for each one of us who eats bread or rice. (16/16)
