ADVENT THREAD: Christmas cheer is much needed for all of us this year so every day in advent I will be watching a Christmas film to properly get into the festive spirit. Lots of suspension of disbelief required and suggestions welcome, the cheesier the better! 1/27
THE KNIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS (2019): a 14th century English knight gets transported to present day Ohio at Christmas to pursue a quest. Ends up helping to make Christmas special and falling in love. Cheesiness: 7/10, Christmas spirit 5/10, overall 6/10. 2/27
A CHRISTMAS TO REMEMBER (2016): a TV presenter has an accident and loses her memory on a solo Christmas trip to Aspen but gets looked after by a kind widowed vet and his children, rediscovering the magic of Christmas. Cheesiness 7/10, Christmas spirit 6/10, overall 5/10. 3/27
CHRISTMAS AT THD COOPERS (2015): a dysfunctional family meet up for what looks to be a dysfunctional Christmas but somehow each manages to find happiness. Ends up with lots of kissing in a hospital waiting room. Cheesiness 5/10, Christmas spirit 6/10, overall 6/10. 4/27
NATIVITY! (2009): a fed up teacher fibs that Hollywood is coming to his class’s nativity play and the lie gets totally out of hand. But it ends up with an all-singing all-dancing nativity, and love of course. Cheesiness 4/10, Christmas spirit 8/10, overall 7/10. 5/27
THE CHRISTMAS TRAIN (2017): a journalist takes the train from DC to LA for Christmas, looking for a story. He finds one full of second chances and an ending that shows happy endings don’t just happen in movies. Cheesiness 6/10, Christmas spirit 8/10, overall 7/10. 6/27
THE HOLIDAY (2006): I’d forgotten how much I dislike this film and it hasn’t improved on me. Should have left it off the list. Cheesiness 5/10, Christmas spirit 4/10, overall 4/10. 7/27
A CHRISTMAS PRINCE (2017): The Princess Diaries meets Never Been Kissed at Christmas with plenty of schmalz. My only issue was with the nonsensical constitution of the fictional country of Aldovia. Cheesiness 8/10, Christmas spirit 6/10, overall 7/10. 8/27
CHRISTMAS UNLEASHED (2019): a New York lawyer goes back to her home town and her beloved dog goes missing. Cue the ex she never really got over helping her find him with predictable consequences. Cheesiness 7/10, Christmas spirit 6/10, overall 6/10. 9/27
A CHRISTMAS LOVE STORY (2019): a youth choir leader has to write a new song before the performance on Christmas Eve and meets a new choir member and his widowed father. Cheesiness 6/10, Christmas spirit 6/10, overall 5/10. 10/27
CHRISTMAS MADE TO ORDER (2018): an architect hirers a decorator to help organise Christmas for him when his family come to town unexpectedly. But she also reminds him of the importance of family and magic of Christmas. Cheesiness 6/10, Christmas spirit 7/10, overall 7/10. 11/27
THE HOLIDAY CALENDAR (2018): a photographer receives from her grandfather a magical advent calendar that seems to predict her future and help her find love. Cheesiness 4/10, Christmas spirit 7/10, overall 6/10. 12/27

CHRISTMAS INHERITANCE (2017): a New York heiress gets sent to her father’s small home town to deliver a Christmas letter and learn a valuable lesson so she can take on the family business. Cheesiness 6/10, Christmas spirit 6/10, overall 6/10. 15/27
ELF (2003): Buddy the Elf leaves the North Pole to find his real father in New York, and spreads Christmas joy everywhere he goes. Cheesiness 3/10, (Clausometer says) Christmas spirit 9/10, overall 8/10. 16/27
A SHOE ADDICT’S CHRISTMAS (2018): kind of a Christmas Carol in Sliding Doors but revolving around shoes. I’ve been trying not to be too critical but this is possibly the worst film so far. Cheesiness 5/10, Christmas Spirit 6/10, overall 3/10. 17/27
THE PRINCESS SWITCH (2018): a Chicago baker turns out to be the spitting image of the duchess about to marry the prince of Belgravia. No prizes for guessing what happens next. Cheesiness 7/10, Christmas spirit 4/10, overall 6/10. 18/28

NATIONAL LAMPOON’S CHRISTMAS VACATION (1989): the Griswold family Christmas goes wrong. Repeatedly. But somehow there is still a happy ending. Cheesiness 5/10, Christmas spirit 6/10, overall 6/10. 19/27
THE CHRISTMAS SET UP (2020): a New York lawyer goes back to Milwaukee for Christmas where his mum sets him up with his high school crush. Will he have to choose between making partner at the London office and true love? Cheesiness 6/10, Christmas spirit 6/10, overall 7/10. 20/27
WHITE CHRISTMAS (1954): a true classic. Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye sing and dance their way from WWII to Broadway to Vermont to put on a Christmas show for their old general. Falling in love on the way. Cheesiness 4/10, Christmas spirit 7/10, overall 8/10. 21/27
CHRISTMAS ON THE SQUARE (2020): a Dolly Parton musical, where she is an angel who helps a hard nosed businesswoman have a change of heart about evicting her tenants at Christmas. Cheesiness 8/10, Christmas spirit 7/10, overall 5/10. 22/27
SNOWBOUND FOR CHRISTMAS (2019): in a better type of Christmas lockdown, Rachel and her boss get snowed in at a luxury ski resort when on a pre-Christmas business trip. But will they fall in love? Cheesiness 7/10, Christmas spirit 5/10, overall 5/10. 23/27
MY CHRISTMAS INN (2018): a workaholic advertising executive inherits an inn in snowy Alaska. Will she choose a big promotion at work or the chance at love and to be part of a community? Cheesiness 7/10, Christmas spirit 6/10, overall 5/10. 24/27
