My thoughts on Duke today...
Guards:
Goldwire — definitely struggled but this is the first time he’s the true lead guard. He’s a senior but still a young basketball player so he’ll get it together.
Roach — had some flashes but late December-January is when we really should be looking for him
Steward — superstar and should start going forward. Great rebounder for his size and he saved Duke today and they’ll need him to do it many times this year.
Moore — still needs to work w/ decision making but I think Duke can live with great defense and 12-13 points (13 today)
Baker — yikes. Missed some open shots and he’s gotta sink them because he’s not playable if he doesn’t hit shots
Johnson — Duke’s best player. Top 5 in college basketball and best in the ACC. Has to be a little more cautious with passing but he’s so calm and composed.
Hurt — might not make the superstar jump people expected but he’ll give Duke 15-16 points and that’s what Duke needs. Looked a lot stronger and a much improved defender.
Brakefield — deserves 12-15 MPG. Loved his energy and defense
Coleman/Williams/Tape — don’t worry Duke fans, Coppin State was one of the most perimeter oriented teams Duke will play all year. These guys aren’t really playable in these types of games. We’ll see all three on Tuesday
Duke was sloppy and that # of turnovers will never beat a good team; however, Duke is young and extremely talented and there were plenty of bright spots. Duke wins by 30-35 if they cut the turnovers down by a few and Coppin doesn’t hit 4-5 25 footers with Duke guys in their faces
Duke also played extremely hard FWIW. A lot of energy
