The long running Dem strategy has been to focus on white moderate/Independent voters esp white women voters in suburbs w/minimal focus on BIPOC voters and that investment does not win white women suburban voters for Dems reliably. A thread: https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/11/27/white-women-vote-republican-get-used-it-democrats/
1st, White suburban women is a complicated frame, you have to break up group for college vs non college educated, married vs not. But many of these groups live in suburbs. With that, exit polls show Biden did better w. college educated ww & Trump kept non college educated ww
Assumptions on white suburban women voters have led for some bad campaign calls. In many whiter suburban areas where GOP did well in prior years, but Biden did well in 2020, the drop off was a cliff for down ballot Dems showing no new loyalty to Dems just dislike of Trump
Meanwhile voters of color(led by black women), without college degrees and with college degrees voted up and down the ticket for Biden and Democrats. And which one is the GOP trying real hard to voter suppress? 👀 Math ain’t hard here people.
I’m not saying stop talking to white women voters entirely, good organizing means you continue to do so, esp. if one targets white women voters that have likelihood of being friendly to Dems (unmarried, college educated) but
Dem strategy need to stop. gearing. a. significant. amount of their voter outreach (if not all) to white women voters especially in suburbs at expense of BIPOC voters in the hopes just more dollars will convince them to vote and become loyal Dems.
