a thread of punishments I know for a fact labels give out to their artists if they dont do as they are told. this is factual as I've personally seen it while at work. once again I work at a recording studio and deal with artists and their teams including mangers ,reps ect :
(quick disclaimer this doesnt apply to ALL artists or ALL labels this is from what I've personally seen and may not incide your fav or their label in it. all labels have different punishing techniques so I'm putting them all together in one thread. )

this is a serious topic. +
1) stunts are a good form of punishment to get an artists to do what they want . rather it be a stunt walk or having to openly talk about a fake relationship/fake drama. being forced to stunt wears artists down and is very draining and emotionally abusive. forced stunts+
+are used for many different punishments like if an artists wont say what they are told or argue over their name bring dragged through the mud also if they fight for more freedom they get more stunts and punishments. stunts are very humiliating and mentally degrading. +
+when punishing closeted people with stunts they also use this to get at the other person in the relationship to agree to things by hurting their lover with stunts. usually their partners suffering makes them cave and do as their team wants. this is a very common punishment.+
+2) sending out bad publicity/articles that arent true to hurt the artists into complying. this also hurts the artists families so they usually comply to a labels wants when other people they care about are in involved. using bad media paints the artists in a bad light to the gp+
+and is mental abuse. having a bad media image as punishment leads to online bullying from gp and can make them loss sales or it can cause family issues . this makes the artists comply and have better articles released to avoid the harrassment of them or their families+
+the bad articles hinders who they really are and is very demeaning. having bad articles is good drama for gp but horrible for the artist to go through bc of that they tend to comply with their orders from their label. their family can be brought into it and dragged as well+
+3) using the artists family against them. labels do pay some family members to do stunts or they will tell the familiar of they do something the artists wont suffer as bad. also emotionally abusing. gamily does get dragged into things a lot but not all the time it just depends.+
+4) stunt songs/lyrics . usually if the artists is in a secret relationship their team will give them a public GF/BF to keep the gp from asking what the songs are about rather the artists wants this or not. it's hard to write love songs and not be forced into a fake relationship+
+ this is used especially with closted relationships so no one looks deeper. Idk an artist that is okay with this tatic and it hurts both the people in the real relationship. but it's still used agaisnt artists wishes to keep things quiet especially if there are gay rumors.+
+5)taking away their phones/cars/sm. normally if they say something on SM that they really shouldn't have their team will take their whole phone and have them escorted around. sometimes they will give the artist a "flip phone" or a phone that can only call and text. +
+they take away their car to keep them from buying another phone or using someone else which is why I always side eye artists that gone sm quiet. I've heard they have someone "live in" the artists home as well to keep them in check but this tactic is only side on extreme cases+
+taking away the phone/car/ect takes away their freedom and can also be used as mental and emotional abuse to keep them locked in their home against their will and yes this is allowed. shouldnt be but artists teams do this or they say the artists is "mentally unwell" +
6) making and releasing videos/pics that make the artists look bad. like releasing nudes or family pics against the artists wishes as a way to embarras them & let the artists know that their team can do anything and get away with it. I havent seen this used often but it happens+
7)getting overworked is another punishment as they give the artists long hours where they barely get a break or get to do anything else and its mentally exhausting that most artists cave so they can rest and the label wins what they want. orverworking is also used to make+
+artists loss weight as they dont have time to eat. overworking comes in many forms like recording, many shows, meetings ect. so they dont get any alone time which causes claustrophobia and mental stress and has lead to mental break downs. +
8)limiting their creative freedom. as in not allowing them to actually do and make what they want. frankly used to just get their way when an artists is being stubborn when the label wants a certain music genre and the artists wants another. they wont allow and wont sign off+
+on any songs/lyrics they dont want and limit the freedom of the artists writing. this leads to other people writing/ghost writing for the artist that way the process is quicker and the label gets what they want and the artists gets to do nothing.+
9) extra stunting and over lap stunting. I cant even explain the amount of stress and anxiety this is. basically multiple stunts going on with 1 artists at once which leads to over lap and constant lying, deceiving and ik at least 4 artists that went to psych wards bc of it.+
+its like never bring able to catch a break and constantly having to pretend and lie about different things all the time and its purple made to be stressful and hard on artists that get this form of punishments. +
anyways that's all I'm gonna get into in this thread about actual punishments that people dont talk about enough. threats are also often used lik "if you dont do (this) than I will ruin your career and you'll never re-sign again" ect. ✌🏻
