Quick thread for all you asking the (totally insincere) question “did Vandy really dress out the most qualified kicker for this game?”

Yes.

Let’s tackle every dumb argument I’ve seen today.
“They could’ve just used someone else on the team.”

Only three Vanderbilt specialists traveled to the game and the punter, Harrison Smith, is also the holder. He can’t do both and, according to his bio on the Vandy website, has never attempted a kick in college and didn’t in HS.
“Why not have tryouts for walk-one?”

Vandy’s last day of in-person classes was Nov. 21, before they knew they’d be this decimated on special teams. There were essentially no students on campus this week, so finding a former HS kicker wasn’t plausible.
“But is she the most qualified person foe the job??”

She’s the starting goalkeeper on the best women’s soccer team in the SEC. Of all the healthy Vanderbilt athletes on campus right now, she is far and away the most qualified person to kick a ball long distances.
Again, the people asking these questions don’t really care what the answers are. They just want to stomp their feet about someone they don’t believe should be playing college football getting a shot to do something they couldn’t possibly do.
Vanderbilt literally picked the best person for the job and a few minutes of research is all it took to see that. The idea that Vandy just wanted to do this for publicity is laughable. Only a handful of women have ever dressed for a college football game, this is incredibly rare.
Vandy found themselves in a terrible spot and picked the person who gave them the best chance to compete. Rooting for you @SarahFuller_27 #AnchorDown
