Nico thread:
It amazes me how quick some fans are to rule Nico Hoerner as a disappointment. Statistically, it was a poor year for the young second baseman. There’s no other way around that. But there are FAR more positives to take away from this kid.

1) Although the overall numbers were bad and he lacked power, Nico provides the EXACT skills Cubs fans have been screaming for going on 4 years now. He makes contact, and plenty of it. In addition, he improved his ability to lay off pitches outside the zone as the season went on
2) Those people that are continuing to point to his numbers as a sign he was overmatched in Chicago clearly did not pay enough attention to what he LOOKED like at the plate. He looked as if he belonged and put together some of the better PA the team saw in 2020.
3) The dude is a ballplayer. Nico runs the bases extraordinarily well, plays great defense at 2B, is more than capable of being a competent SS, and can play all over the diamond. Even if he doesn’t ever hit for power, he is still a very valuable player.
I feel like the same fans shouting from the rooftops for a player like Nico are the people quick to say Nico is not the answer to this team’s woes. He makes contact, he hits the ball hard, he does all the little things right. Just enjoy who he is and who he has potential to be.
