ok so here’s a thread nobody asked for on how dean not loving cas back literally doesn’t work plotwise;

their entire storyline has always been about dean: because think with me, in the end, he’s the main character. dean spent his entire life thinking he was undeserving of love,
always seeing himself the way his enemies saw him, and throughout his life he was led to believe that was the truth, because no one treated him otherwise. he never had a loving parent figure to sit him down and tell him how worthy he was, how proud of him they were, how
loved he was. he had to BE that parent at an extremely young age, so when it came to himself, he didn’t care. but yet, it’s always been clear that he longed for it; he longed for love, to love and be loved in return, to have anyone see him as anything but the way he saw himself.
then above it all, he also spent this entire last season- the most important plot this show has ever had- thinking nothing in his life was ever real, because everything seemed to be under chuck’s control. and CAS was the one to debunk it ALL. cas was the one who loved him
unconditionally, unlike dean ever thought was possible for anyone to. castiel, a whole celestial being, who’s seen dean’s very soul, seen him at his lowest and darkest moments, told him things dean never heard from anyone else before. for him to hear that, and to believe it?
it’s a point where hearing that was basically the most crucial thing for dean’s entire arc. but now probably the most important decision they made that literally makes it impossible plotwise for cas not to have his feelings returned: cas was canonically the only being who
always managed to defy chuck’s control, confirmed by chuck himself. and all that was because of dean. LOVING dean did that. dean, may i remind you, who didn’t believe anything in his life was real. dean, who desperately needed to be proved wrong. dean, who was told by cas himself
that they. were. real. so in the end, this has always been about dean- and in no other story you will EVER see a long-term romantic storyline go all this way, filling every hole in said main character’s life... to be unrequited. that just doesn’t happen. now i’d like to point out
i only used two examples of obvious signs of reciprocation the story gave us, since these particular ones were tied to the very core of the plot around these two characters. if i tried covering every other one.. let’s just say i’d be here a long time. but i think we all know that
in conclusion: yup, i have absolutely no doubt in my mind that plotwise, castiel is the love of dean’s life.
