1/ It’s important to understand why pieces like the Johns Hopkins article and the @cdcgov “6%” report have such traction. They’re wrong - the excess deaths are real, and a majority are #Covid-related - but they are speaking to a deeper truth...
2/ We are now nine months into hysterical warnings of overrun hospitals and mass death, and most people still do not know a single person who has been hospitalized from #Covid, much less died from it...
3/ The reality is that because so many #Covid deaths occur in nursing homes the strain on the medical system is far LESS than the topline death numbers indicate. Further, at this point many people have been infected and recovered themselves...
4/ And nearly everyone knows someone - if not several people - who has been infected and recovered, likely quickly, possibly after a few days of discomfort.

The upshot is that people are desperately trying to reconcile their lived experience with what the media is saying...
5/ And stories like “no excess deaths” seem to provide the explanation.
