Faye Schulman, a Jewish photographer was the only known person to document partisan resistance during WWII.

“I want people to know that there was resistance. Jews did not go like sheep to the slaughter. I was a photographer. I have pictures. I have proof.”
On Aug 14,1942, Germans killed 1,850 Jews from the Lenin ghetto, including Faye's family. They spared only 26 people that day, including Faye for her photographic abilities. The Germans ordered her to develop the photos of the massacre. Secretly, she also made copies for herself.
Faye later succeeded in recovering her old photo equipment. During the next two years, she took over a hundred photographs, developing the medium format negatives under blankets and making “sun prints” during the day. On missions Faye buried the camera & tripod to keep it safe.
It's remarkable these photos exist. And remarkable that despite every attempt to find such stories I've only just heard of Faye Schulman. Every day I think of how many stories don't get shared because of who is telling them.

More of her photos here: https://jewishpartisans.blogspot.com/2012/02/tu-bshvat-and-jewish-partisan.html
FWIW, the article linked above is one of the most beautiful tellings I've ever stumbled across on how connected resistance movements are to the nature & spirituality of a place/people.
And just because I'm a broken record, this also makes me think about how many people would still dismiss her work outright- exactly because of who she was. She documented her life and struggle to survive. Would someone doing the same today be given respect or dismissed?
