Americans’ rights are not protected on the internet. There is not a single lawmaker who understands this, let alone one making a serious effort to fix it beyond theatrical flexing on TV. Data is an extension of the self in the digital realm, there is no conversation about that.
Bureaucrats do understand this but they have no incentive to rectify it. In fact, they have direct incentive to perpetuate the status quo.
“AbOlisH SeCTiOn 230” is a distraction and does nothing to address this, nor does it address anti-competitive behavior and the oligopoly in Silicon Valley.
Someone is barred by law from opening and reading your mail but they are not barred by law from reading your emails, texts, viewing your camera roll, storing that information and selling it. This is done every second of the day...
And if you would like to engage with the modern world you must submit to those terms, despite them violating your rights granted by God.
I don’t want to sue massive companies for censorship at my expense, I want a decentralized system where I am in control of my privacy, responsible for my speech, and my existence and private conversations are not for sale.
The system in which we function today is digital slavery and should be framed as such. We are round the clock being stripped and taken advantage of by unaccountable mega corporations with 0 recourse apart from, “if you don’t like it don’t engage in digital society.”
We ought to be able to bank, travel, and communicate, while maintaining our rights and sovereignty. This was ratified by the Constitution in 1788.
