Yes, you read that correctly. Bayern Munich is *not* a Nazi club. This should come as no surprise to any Germans and Bayern fans. However, many are clearly not aware of our club's suffering under the Nazis
I'm sure that you've all seen that Bayern logo with a swastika on it, used by geniuses who run out of arguments against Bayern fans. While it's true that Bayern were associated with the Nazis, it does not mean that the club was responsible for any of the atrocities committed.
In fact, Bayern did their best to oppose Nazi rule. As a result, the club and its members faced persecution that is not widely known today.
Before we get started, I'd like to remind everyone that it's disgusting to label modern day Germans as Nazis. They aren't responsible for the actions of those in the past. Refrain from this stereotyping no matter how much you may want to. This includes Toni Kroos.
Bayern Munich was founded on February 27, 1900 by 17 signatories, 2 of whom were Jewish. Bayern's influence in Munich and Southern Germany grew rapidly, but they needed to be recognized on a national level. This is where Kurt Landauer comes in (very important)
Landauer, a Jewish banker, was elected president at the age of 29 in 1913. However, World War I broke out and he served as a soldier. After the war, Landauer worked tirelessly to revolutionize the club. He introduced a youth development system and adopted the Hungarian style of
play. Bayern achieved fiscal stability even during the Great Depression. Landauer also believed that football should be a professional sport. As a result, Bayern won the South German Championship in 1926. In 1931, Richard Dombi, who was Jewish, was appointed manager. He won the
1932 German Championship, securing Bayern's role as a national-level club. However, the political situation of Germany was deteriorating as the Nazi party consolidated power. They viewed sport as a perfect opportunity to show Aryan superiority. In 1933, it was announced that all
Jews were to be removed from their club. Many clubs and the DFB obliged, but Bayern was one of the clubs that refused to voluntarily expel its Jewish members. However, Landauer was forced to resign in March 1933. Dombi also left Germany. Bayern would be known as a "Judenklub",
ostracized by the entire nation due to their resistance. Landauer continued to secretly run the club behind the scenes. The club appointed non-Nazis into positions of power. Winger Willy Simetsreiter took a picture with Jesse Owens at the Olympics.
Several Bayern players were involved in a massive brawl against SA members, the original Nazi shock troops. Full-back Sigmund Haringer criticized the Nazi flag and was almost arrested. Captain Conny Heidkamp hid the club's silverware when Goring demanded the metal to be donated
for the war effort. Things changed when Kristallnacht occured in 1938. Landauer was arrested and taken to Dachau Concentration Camp. He was freed due to his military service in WW1 however. Unfortunately, 3 of his brothers were murdered and his sister disappeared.
Landauer fled to Switzerland. Due to Nazi persecution, Bayern lost many of its club members. Additionally, they suffered competitively and financially. In 1943, Bayern's most daring act of defiance took place. The Bavarians traveled to Zurich to play a Swiss club. Kurt Landauer
was present at the game. Bayern players lined up and applauded him, violating a Gestapo order. This act led to increased persecution. A Nazi Party member was appointed president. The club logo was changed to the infamous swastika to humiliate Bayern.
After the war, Landauer returned to run Bayern Munich, He found the club in shambles but did his best to fix things until his tenure ended in 1951. He died in 1961. Landauer played a crucial role in what Bayern is today. The Bayern ultras, Schickeria uphold his memory
9 club members were killed, deported, or had to flee during this period of dark history. We cannot forget the damage and pain that the Nazis brought to Bayern Munich and many around the world
I wrote this thread to inform. This will not stop the funny internet people from making Bayern Nazi jokes. However, I hope this thread shows you how ignorant and close-minded they are. No matter what, I'm proud to support this club.
