Okay. I’m an old Sherlockian about to watch Enola Holmes.
I’m not going to lie. This looks like it could be quite fun. I do like the actors and am willing to accept Henry Cavill as a remarkably attractive Sherlock.
Just for a giggle (clockwise): Walter Paget as a young man; Henry Cavill as Holmes; Holmes himself; and Walter Paget at the time he sat as a model for Holmes.
I love that they are exploring the messy and weird Holmes family dynamic. I’m sad that they excised the (according to William S. Baring-Gould) choleric and polymathic patriarch Siger Holmes.
I love that Helena Bonham Carter plays the mum. Again, it would have been fun to Enola raised by Siger and Eudora. Two brilliant polymaths with very different approaches to child-rearing tend to create very interesting protagonists.
So far, Mycroft is criminally misrepresented (a typical fate for him, I’m afraid).
Mycroft was, by far, the more antisocial and laissez-faire member of the family. He wouldn’t give a damn what Enola wore or with whom she associated.

Mycroft would have considered the ownership and upkeep of Mycroft Farm (for which he was named) to be an enormous burden.
He was also too lazy to make a train journey from the West End to Yorkshire.

However, drama necessitates friction and strife... and Sherlock cannot be made to appear douchey, so Mycroft becomes the initial hurdle to be overcome. I hope that they redeem him by the end.
