THREAD: The Web 2.0 world was a small community. Everyone knew and helped one another. Already successful, Tony Hsieh was always present, always active. He helped entrepreneurs, startups, big companies, and non-profits alike. His friendships were true and lasting. 1/
He then went on to build the #DowntownProject. Many old and new friends were part of making his dream for #DowntownLasVegas a reality. So many of our friends moved to Vegas to be part of that dream. He always stayed grounded. He was always reachable. 2/
In 2012, I wrote the cover story for @Entrepreneur. I was asked to interview 3 tech CEOs who would inspire the next generation of #entrepreneurs. My 1st choice was Tony, because, beyond vision, he symbolized good in a world that often changes with $. https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/217504 3/
Tony was gracious and fun, as always. The advice he shared then is as valuable now. He was famous for delivering "wow" in service.
“Customer service is about making customers happy, company culture is about making employees happy, so let’s just simplify it..." – Toney Hsieh

Tony was a big believer in culture design at @Zappos. He distilled his vision into 10 core values:
1. Deliver “wow” through service;
2. embrace and drive change;
3. create fun and a little weirdness;
4. be adventurous, creative and open-minded;
5. pursue growth and learning;

Before acquiring it, Amazon attempted to “kill” Zappos with http://Endless.com . Tony believed that the company’s unique championing of employees, customers, and happiness was key to winning.

Under Amazon, Zappos now runs as an independent brand, a brand that only continues to excel under the banner of happiness.

Tony once told me, “Your culture is your brand. Customer service shouldn’t just be a department, it should be the entire company.”
These words should live in soul of every organization.
