A THREAD on the #substantialmeal policy. It is largely unenforceable and will become profoundly embarrassing as pubs find a way round it - or mock it.
We may get the continental cafe culture after all as food orders take some time to arrive
Pubs will become very popular places for business meetings
Pub owners are entrepreneurs and will find ways of staying open and offering food and alcohol
It will be burger and chips all round for many previously wet pubs.
Takeaways and pubs will get around the rules by working together
I can’t decide if this was a joke but at the very least G-A-Y and McDonalds may give inspiration to many
And local councils may (and I believe should) adopt a flexible approach which could make the rule meaningless.
Pub owners who interpret the rules to keep pints flowing are not doing wrong. They are protecting their businesses. This could be the unintended consequence of this policy. The virus is not less deadly with of bowl of chips. This policy should be changed.
