I’ve received a lot of abuse since posting this yesterday, which I kind of expected after seeing similar pile-ons to other young Labour members last week. I’ve also had a number of accusations thrown at me, and I’ll now confront each one. Here goes. (Thread) 1/8 https://twitter.com/ylm_movement_/status/1332416565376114694
First of all, a number of people have accused me of being factional, and trying to divide the party. I’m not. I only created this account as a response to Young Labour’s factional and toxic behaviour over the past few weeks & months, which is alienating a lot of its members. 2/8
Many people also brought up the fact that the left candidates won the Young Labour elections, so I should just shut up. That’s not how democracy works. The Tories won the 2019 election, does that mean that Labour should just shut up and accept everything they do until 2024? 3/8
I’ve had many comments about me being unelected, and therefore not having a right to start up this twitter account. The thing about Twitter is that if you want to hear what I have to say, you follow. If you don’t, then you don’t follow. I’m not forcing my views on anyone. 4/8
Some people have simply misunderstood what I’m trying to do here. I’m not an organisation, I don’t have a website, I don’t have any policies. I’m here because I’m tired of Young Labour members who support Keir Starmer feeling as if they’re not represented in the party. 5/8
I’ve been called a Tory by many, which couldn’t be further from the truth. It’s because I love the Labour Party and despise the Tory Party that I want to see Labour become electable once more. I never want to see a defeat like 2019 ever again. 6/8
Despite all the abuse, I’ve also revived a lot of support. Over 300 followers and counting, I just want to say thank you. 7/8
In conclusion, all I’ll say is that it would be nice if Corbyn supporters didn’t just abuse and pile onto any views that differ from theirs, and maybe actually have a constructive debate, so they can start to invoke the ‘kinder, gentler politics’ they claim to represent. 8/8
