Looking at the EY #Covid19 report the government paid for with our money rather than funding public health - impact of opening the wet pubs on boosting #Covid19 in rural Ireland is striking. It's that red column that leaps out at you /1
Opening 'wet pubs' everywhere except Dublin accidentally created a comparative experiment that suggests the extent to which pubs can drive #Covid19 cases even in conditions that the vintners assured us would be safe - anecdotally that claim needed a big pinch of salt /2
Much of this confirms what we knew - the initial phases of careful opening didn't cause a problem. The open everything at once rush Leo engineered June 29th cause the problem. Lesson should have been not to make that mistake again but that's exactly what the government did /3
Report warns of the consequences of family gatherings via Canadian Thanksgiving where "Total number of positive cases has doubled from 155,000 on 28 September to over 310,000 on 18th November". This should have meant drive cases down as low as possible ahead of the 25th /4
Worse still using international evidence it even warns that full restaurant opening carries the highest risk. So basically even after paying to hear the answers they wanted & still getting a 'No not safe' government decided to go ahead with a high risk for us opening anyway /5
