So I decided to explain more behind this on Instagram and will copy to here because tbh this sort of activity is important to counter. It’s straight up deflecting accountability and normalising the home office’s intrusion into every facet of Muslim life online or offline. So remember supersisters were found to be home office funded as part of a BSBT counter extremism project to socially engineer Muslim girlhood that is apolitical and especially uncritical of systems of oppression operating by or for the state
I was tagged by a VAWG org that posted me alongside supersisters as egs of Muslim women “doing great things”. Such celebration flattens the fact our work is in direct opposition !! So I commented this

Turns out the vawg org were also HO funded though.. so much for accountability
Next thing I know Supersisters come back with a bizarrely deflecting set of comments showing really mixed signals and claiming former employees were outright liars... so I had to break down my reply in 3 parts
That’s when it got even wilder.. you’d think they’d make a move to be transparent about current funding but their next set of deflections simultaneously condemned BSBT, justified BSBT, likened me paying university fees to taking BSBT funding & altogether refused to be transparent
I had to set the record straight. I simply refuse to be coerced by disingenuous logic from projects essentially preying on Young muslim girls and aiming to shape their politics in a deliberately non-dissenting direction.
The very least they could do is show accountability to their followers. It is okay to make mistakes, the Home Office’s tentacles are everywhere, but those decisions must be owned up to & actively amended. orgs who say they’re for marginalised ppl must take steps to EARN trust!
Ps this thread exemplifies what I like to call the administrative tyranny of the way on terror
