First up. Philip Danault speaks. Here’s a great read from @ArponBasu about the ironies in Danault’s situation. I may add a couple of thoughts to Arpon’s. #Habs
Phillip Danault’s contract situation with the Canadiens is dripping with irony https://theathletic.com/2220126/2020/11/24/phillip-danault-contract-canadiens-situation/?source=user_shared_article

The first irony is the Danault full circle. Remember when Diaz was moved for Weise? And then Weise and Fleishmann were moved for Danault and the 2nd that became Romanov? That was the beginning of Bergevin's earnest effort to fill holes at C and D. #Habs
As @ArponBasu notes, Danault came to the #habs when they were seriously lacking C depth. The door was wide open for upward mobility. But his top C status is being challenged by 2 young Cs who will have to overtake him to earn the job he was gifted. Ironic. #habs
It's been said that Danault was misunderstood at the end of the season. But as Arpon notes, he said in no uncertain terms that he didn't want his role to change much. The irony? With Danault in that role the #habs were bad enough to draft one of the guys who will overtake him.
