Boris Johnson has de facto lost control of over 30 to 40 Tory MPs. It is worth considering what would happen to the Labour Party's position among voters if Labour MPs deciding to vote with such rogue Tory Brexiter MPs against a Deal led to a No Deal outcome with the EU.
And abstention is an option that looks good on a superficial level but open up space for the charge that Labour is being spineless.
Starmer can make a plausible case for saying any Deal Johnson negotiates is not fixed for all time and can provide a governance framework to rebuild closer relations.

In pointing out that reality, Starmer would also help stir up more Tory MPs to rebel against Johnson.
Any Johnson Deal that Labour supports will immediately fuel the anti-"capitulation" suspicions of over 70 Brexiter Tory MPs.

Labour voting for a Johnson Deal will help fuel Tory infighting while still leaving space for Labour to claim later that it would implement better.
Finally, ex-Remainers need to avoid exuding the impression they hanker for some quasi-divine punishment by the "laws of history" against voters in England. Brexit is likely to be destabilising, but Schadenfreude compounds radicalisation and will not build support for alternatives
